WOMEN'S GUILD

HISTORIC
SWISS AVENUE

RESOURCES

5741   5711

YEAR BUILT: 1919
ARCHITECT/BUILDER: Unknown
ORIGINAL OWNER: Theodore Marcus
ORIGINAL
DESCRIPTION:
The house defies classification in as much as it reinterprets Georgian elements in a non-historic manner. The porch and dormers hint at a Palladian influence. The main roof is a jerkinhead while the side wings have full gabled roofs. These wings are fenestrated in a Progressive manner, whereas the main facade has separated windows in an Eclectic form.
OF INTEREST: This home was built for Theodore Marcus, a merchant exporter and later vice president of his brotherês store, Neiman Marcus. Theodore Marcus' sister, Carrie Marcus Neiman, also lived on Swiss Avenue.
