Continuing
the trend of Jacobethan architecture, this home has a
unique porch which is connected to the porte cochere by
an octagonal veranda. These elements contain, in turn,
a stone Tudor arch, a series of brick semi-circular arches,
and a deep segmented arch with stone springers and key
stones all untied by a continuous crenellated parapet
wall. the main body of the house is asymmetrical with
a tall, thin pavilion and front chimney on one side contrasting
with a small, lower pavilion with a Palladian influenced
fanlight window and stone quoins on the opposite side.
The fan lighted French doors and corner quoins are derived
from the Georgian Mode and contrast with the Jacobethan
design f the remainder of the residence. All of the gables
have decoratively carved barge boards, a non-Tudor element
which adds to the Eclecticism of the house as does the
quoin-work and arched windows. In the center of the porte
cochere parapet is located a whimsical stone relief panel
of a group of cherubs. |
